First of all - I’m not actually a dedicated photographer - I’m a sculptor who specialises in the beauty of the female form.
I've been creating carved sculptures from wood for more than 5 years now, some of my creations have sold to art lovers all around the world, (including to a celebrity or two). As part of my creative process, I work with life models and use photographs as references for the sculptures I create. Because some pieces can take up to three months to complete, working from photos allows me to accurately capture and refine the details over time.
The photographic process is very straightforward. Before the shoot, I’ll select a range of poses that I feel have strong artistic interest and will translate well into sculpture. We usually work in a simple setting with a neutral backdrop, typically within a screened area of my studio. There’s no need for elaborate locations, hair, or makeup - the images are purely for reference, (they are never published or shared in any form), and the focus is on the natural beauty of the form and the pose.
During the session, I’ll ask you to hold each pose for around 60–90 seconds while I take photographs from multiple angles, and sometimes from above. While I'll already have a clear idea of the poses I’d like to explore, I truly welcome your interpretation and input. Often, the way a pose comes naturally to you brings something unique and special, helping transform a sculpture from simply beautiful into something captivating and compelling from every angle.
