I've been a hobbyist photographer for almost 50 years, and I recently started a new digital project. I had an idea to photograph kintsugi, but with a human subject. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold in the glue, making the repaired object more unique and valuable. This seemed an apt metaphor for people, and has resonated with the models I have photographed. My original idea was to use body paint, but that is messy, time-consuming, and expensive. Projection is a quicker, less expensive, and much more versatile technique. I have also found a much broader scope, as each model has had their own ideas that we have been able to incorporate into some amazing imagery.
